What would you do if I told you that you could cut out one entire rise from your bread cycle? Saving you over two hours in some cases? And with this same tool you could make bread for your whole block at one time? Up to 15 pounds of bread? That once kitchen machine can make you breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. I mean you might have to help a little, but this tool is the best investment I ever made!
When my baking habit turned from a hobby to passion a while back I started looking for a mixer. Of course my first choice was a kitchen aid mixer. You see them around every counter these days, sparkling in bright colors. I saw red, pink, and white ones dazzling the shelves at Target yesterday. I was ready to lay down my hard earned cash on one, but old habits die hard and I decided to just do a tiny bit of research on them first. I talked to a friend who has one and my fiance’s mom. They both raved but neither bake a lot, and both don’t really bake bread. So I turned to google. I started typing in kitchen aid and bread and what I found made me pause. I found countless articles of moms who tried to mix up 2 or more loafs of bread and killed their mixers. As I read, more and more evidence piled up against the kitchen aid. Even the Pro level models were getting raked over the coals by bread bakers.
Well then I was lost. I wanted a mixer but I wanted something that would last for a lifetime of bread baking! Again I turned to google and stumbled upon the Bosch stand mixer. My dad is a contractor so I was familiar with Bosch tools, but appliances? I had no idea they made them. I read a few reviews and it seemed to be the home bread bakers choice. Sadly, there was not many reviews for the mixer. I did not have much to go on. I read everything I could and it was decided it was going to be the Bosch Universal mixer for me. That is the reason I had to write this review and why I feature my Bosch in most episodes of my show. I wish there had been more information so I could have gotten my mixer SOONER! It really is that awesome.
Who’s the Bosch?
Like a kitchen aid, the Bosch is a kitchen machine! There are so many accessories for it, like a blender, meat grinder, sliver/shredder, citrus juicer, and food processor. The engine of this thing is so powerful! I use the blender ever day for fruit smoothies, soups and green smoothies and it is amazing! One thing to watch, if you use the blender a lot you will need to replace a gasket ( only $2.50) in it about every 9-12 months. This prevents the blender from leaking into the motor.
But I digress, back to bread. The kneading action on this guy to so amazing that if you use instant yeast you can skip a rise in your bread cycle! Yes, this mixer can take 1-2 hours out of your total bread making time. Usually with a bread recipe you mix the ingredients, knead, let it rise in the bowl covered. Then you punch it down and shape it into loaf pans let it rise again and then bake. Because the mixer is so efficient at kneading the dough, it develops the gluten much faster. When the dough is mixed and kneaded you can shape the dough right then let it rise and bake! NO SECOND RISE! That in itself is truly amazing!
Did you know that with this mixer you can make 15 POUNDS of dough at once? Yes! You! Can! truly this guy is a workhorse. A workhorse meant for your kitchen counter. I keep my Bosch mixer on my counter at all times. Its shorter than a kitchen aid so chances are it will fit under your upper level cabinets too. I find the it is quieter than most mixers and blenders as well. I burned out 3 blenders before I got this guy. They were all pretty expensive and loud as heck. Like, I hated to use them, I am going to wake up all of Seattle loud. The Bosch can make some noise when grinding on frozen strawberries but it is some much more pleasant than previous blenders I’ve had.
Some people report that with small batches the Bosch won’t work as well. I have found that to be true sometimes, but if I just stop it every so often and scrape down the sides of the bowl and I don’t have an issue. Additionally, one of the add on’s ( the slicer/shredder I believe) can be used on the upper (blender) drive as a mixer for smaller batches. It really is a jack of all trades. I could go on and on. Before I list out the main benefits below, if you have a question about the Bosch let me know or leave a comment here and I will answer it to the best of my abilities.
